Aathan Tamil Calendar ("Aathan", "we", "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains, in detail, what information is collected when you use our app, how it is collected, why, who it is shared with, and the choices and rights you have. We wrote this to be specific about our actual practices, not generic boilerplate.
2.1 Information you provide directly
We do not ask for or collect your name, email address, phone number, or any account credentials — there is no login or account of any kind.
• Day notes, fasting/vrat reminders, and app settings (language, theme, region) you create are stored only in local storage on your device (using standard Android/iOS local storage APIs). They are never transmitted to us or to any third party.
• Your precise location (GPS) is never requested or collected. Region selection for regional holidays is a manual dropdown you choose yourself, not detected automatically.
2.2 Information collected automatically (Firebase Analytics)
The app includes the Firebase Analytics SDK, which automatically collects, on our behalf:
• Device information: device model, manufacturer, operating system and version, app version, screen size, and language/locale setting.
• Usage events: which screens you open, features you tap (e.g. Muhurtham Finder, Peyarchi), session length and frequency, and general engagement patterns.
• An app-instance identifier generated by Firebase itself (not your device's advertising ID) used only to distinguish one installation's event stream from another's — this identifier is not linked to your name or any other personal identity we hold, because we hold none.
This data is aggregated and pseudonymous — it helps us see which features are used and where the app might be confusing or slow, not who is using it.
2.3 Information collected by our advertising partner (Google AdMob)
The app shows ads via Google AdMob. When ads are shown, Google (as an independent controller for its advertising service, not as our processor) may collect:
• Your device's advertising identifier — IDFA on iOS (only if you grant App Tracking Transparency permission) or Advertising ID on Android.
• IP address, used to infer a coarse, city/region-level location for ad relevance — this is not the same as GPS location and is not collected by the app itself.
• Device and app information (model, OS, app version) and ad interaction data (which ads were shown, viewed, or tapped).
Google's collection and use of this data for advertising is governed by Google's own privacy policy, linked in Section 5 — we do not control what Google does with it beyond the settings we configure (e.g. requesting non-personalised ads when you decline consent).
• To operate and improve the app's features.
• To understand which features are used, so we can prioritise fixes and improvements (Firebase Analytics).
• To show ads that fund the app being free, and to measure ad performance (Google AdMob).
• We do not sell your personal information to data brokers, and we do not use your data for any purpose beyond what is described in this policy.
If you are located in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, our legal bases under GDPR are:
• Consent — for personalised advertising and any tracking-related data use, obtained via the Google-provided consent form (Android, EEA/UK) or Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt (iOS). You may decline, and the app remains fully functional with non-personalised ads instead.
• Legitimate interest — for basic, non-personalised analytics necessary to keep the app stable and working correctly, balanced against your right to object (see Section 12).
We integrate exactly two third-party services, both operated by Google:
• Google AdMob — advertising. How Google uses information from partner sites/apps
• Firebase Analytics (a Google service) — anonymous usage analytics.

We do not share, sell, or rent your information to any other company, advertiser, or data broker beyond these two Google services embedded in the app.
• iOS: on first launch, you'll see Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. Choosing "Ask App Not to Track" means the app cannot access your device's IDFA, and only non-personalised ads are requested.
• Android (EEA/UK): a consent form (built on Google's User Messaging Platform) appears on first launch, letting you choose which categories of ad personalisation to allow or decline.
• Android (outside EEA/UK) and general opt-out: you can limit ad tracking anytime via your device settings — Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking on iOS, or Settings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID / Opt out of Ads Personalization on Android.
Aathan is a mobile app, not a website — it does not use browser cookies. The mobile-app equivalent is the advertising identifier (IDFA/Advertising ID) described in Section 2.3, which serves the same function as an ad cookie would on the web, and is controlled the same way described in Section 6.
Panchangam (astronomical calendar) data is downloaded from calendar.techpuram.in over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to keep your calendar accurate and up to date. This is a one-way content download — no personal information, device identifiers, or usage data is sent to this server as part of the sync process. Requests to this server are logged at the standard web-server level (IP address, timestamp, requested file) for operational purposes like abuse prevention, and are not linked to any personal profile.
• We do not operate our own user database, so there is no central store of your personal data for us to retain or delete on request.
• Day notes, reminders, and settings you create remain on your device until you delete them individually or uninstall the app, at which point they are permanently removed.
• Firebase Analytics and Google AdMob data is retained according to Google's own retention schedules, which we do not directly control; Firebase's default analytics event retention is 14 months, after which raw event data is automatically deleted from Google's systems.
• All communication with calendar.techpuram.in uses HTTPS encryption in transit.
• Since there is no account system, there are no passwords or credentials for us to store or that could be compromised in a breach of our systems.
• Locally stored data (notes, reminders, settings) is protected by your device's own operating-system-level app sandboxing and security.
Google's Firebase Analytics and AdMob infrastructure may process data on servers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States. Google maintains its own legal transfer mechanisms (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for such transfers — see Google's Privacy Policy (Section 5) for details, as this is governed by Google as the data controller for that processing.
• Deletion: uninstalling the app permanently deletes all locally stored data (notes, reminders, cached calendar data, settings).
• Opt-out of tracking/personalised ads: available anytime via the device settings described in Section 6.
• EEA/UK residents (GDPR): you have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port your data, and to object to processing. Because we hold no server-side personal data ourselves, requests about Analytics or advertising data are best exercised directly through Google's own privacy controls — myaccount.google.com/data-and-privacy and adssettings.google.com — or contact us at the email in Section 16 and we will assist or forward your request as appropriate.
California residents have rights to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA — this can include the use of advertising identifiers for personalised/cross-context ads). For this app, declining consent/tracking as described in Section 6 is the applicable opt-out mechanism, since we do not otherwise sell or share personal information with third parties beyond the two Google services in Section 5.
This app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app's third-party SDKs, please contact us and we will take steps to have it removed, consistent with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent regulations elsewhere.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect new features or changes in legal requirements. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change whenever we do. Material changes affecting how your data is used will be reflected here before they take effect; continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
